Depending on how the skybox is implemented (i.e. For a 32 bit integer, that's over 2 billion, for a 64 bit double-precision floating point, that'd require scientific notation but it's along the lines of 10^300 if memory serves. You may start to get lack of precision from floating point numbers, but you shouldn't really have to worry about crashes or anything of the sort unless you exceed the numbers' actual capacity. That would obviously depend on the game, but tracking a player outside the map is really just as simple as tracking their coordinates. I'm somewhat unwilling to throw my subs at the prospect of dying to the hand of god, so I haven't tried it, myself :) What happens then? Do I just keep on sailing forever until my waypoints are 80 km behind me? Or does the game eventually force me to turn around by murdering me somehow? Just curious. Sure, there's the Ghost Leviathan, but I'm pretty sure my Seamoth could outrun it, plus those things were killable last I checked. That's very clearly the 'end of the world,' as I presume it keeps going past the maximum crush depth and oxygen capacity of the in-game equipment. Past that, the terrain drops to below my ability to observe both because I don't have vehicles which can dive down that far and because of the Ghost Leviathan which seems to live there.

If you sail in any direction, you'll eventually run into a shelf break after seemingly 2-3 km at most.

So, it's pretty clear to me that the Subnautica world has an 'end' to it, at least laterally.
